a note from us
Next to Harry Potter, musicals and coffee, there’s nothing we love more than talking about history, social justice and feminism. We started From Skirts To Scrubs because we wanted to explore how we can use our backgrounds in Medical History and Gender Studies to better understand the complicated, overshadowed, and sometimes ridiculous roles of women in medicine throughout history.
Our hope is that by learning more about the impact that women have had on healthcare and also understanding what women experience today, we can better prepare ourselves for our roles as future physicians and women in general, while having some fun while we do it.
Char and Alesha

Alesha Kotian
Alesha is a medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School. She graduated from the University of Michigan where she studied Neuroscience and Gender & Health. She loves using her background in feminist studies to look at history and stories, especially ones that are not as readily told. She loves being able to actively engage in these kinds of conversations in medical school. She is planning to become an Obstetrician and Gynecologist and is passionate about health equity and advocacy work as well as medical education. Outside of medicine and history, Alesha loves hosting dinner parties, cooking with her roommates, exploring local coffee shops and watching really bad rom coms.

Charlotte Thill
Charlotte is a medical student at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Neuroscience and Classical Civilizations and has always loved history. After discovering medical history in undergrad, she began to see how the past affects us today, especially when it comes to women’s health and medical care. The intersection of medicine and history led her to this podcast and inspired her to become a Obstetrician and Gynecologist in the future! Within medicine, she is passionate about working with underserved populations and advocating for her community. Apart from this lovely podcast, Charlotte enjoys reading fantasy and psychological thriller novels, playing the Switch with her roommates, and exploring the restaurant scene of Detroit!

Meet our intern: Hunter Griffin
Hunter is a recent graduate of Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL, where she studied Biology and Psychology. She was drawn to the podcast because of the interconnection between medicine, feminism, and history. As someone who is in her gap year, she was looking for mentors who can help her on the road to medicine and was excited when she came across FSTS, Alesha, and Charlotte! Right now, Hunter is drawn to Orthopedics and helping other athletes, but she has been loving shadowing her Internal Medicine physician. Other than science and FSTS, Hunter loves playing and coaching volleyball, finding new bakeries and coffee shops, and listening to other podcasts.
